INFLUENCE OF COMMUNICATION TECHNIQUES ON PRINCIPALS’ ADMINISTRATION OF SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract


The study investigated influence of communication techniques on principals’ administration of secondary schools in Anambra State, Nigeria. It adopted a descriptive survey design. The study was guided by two research questions and two hypotheses tested at .05 level of significance. The Population of the study was 370 consisting of 250 teachers and 120 principals .One instrument constructed by the researchers titled: “Influence of Communication Techniques on Principals Administration Questionnaire (ICTPAQ)” was used for data collection. The instrument was face validated by two experts from Education Management unit and one expert from measurement and Evaluation unit, all in Faculty of Education, Chukwuemaka Odumegwu Ojukwu University. The internal consistency was ascertained by administering the instrument to 5 principals and 15 teachers in Delta State Secondary Schools. After the analysis of the data, Cronbach Alpha method was used to determine the internal consistency which yielded 0.77.The data collected were analyzed using mean, mean set, ranking order and z-test. The results of data analysis revealed that speaking with simple English, writing memo with concise English, use of body language are some of the communication techniques that influence principals administration of Secondary Schools in Anambra State. Based on these findings, some recommendations were made as follows: school principals should always use adequate communication technique to enhance school administration and government should organize regular workshops and seminars on effective communication techniques for school administrators.
