COMMUNITY CONTRIBUTIONS AS PREDICTORS FOR EFFECTIVE ADMINISTRATION OF PUBLIC SECONDARY SCHOOLS IN ANAMBRA STATE

Abstract


The study investigated community contributions as predictors for effective administration of public secondary school  in Anambra State, Nigeria. The design for the study was correlational research design which showed degree of relationship between variables. Three research questions and one null hypothesis tested at 0 .05 level of significance guided the research.  The population of the study was 261 principals as school Administrators. The sample for study was 261 principals. The instrument that was used to collect data was two self structured questionnaires titled ‘Community Contribution Questionnaire” (CCQ) and “Effective Administration Questionnaire” (EAQ). After analyzing the data of the study, the following findings were discovered: Employment of personnel, fund raising and Provision of facilities by communities were weak predictors for effective administration of public secondary schools in Anambra State. Based on the findings, it was recommended that training and re-training of  personnel should be vigorously pursued and that principals should adopt good school-community relationship in order to integrate members of the community into the school to enable them understand the problems of their schools and help to ameliorate these problems.
